Station 422 was built in 1991 to serve the growing northern section of Greenfield including portions of I-70 and the busy commercial and industrial corridor along IN-9. Station 422 completed a massive renovation and addition project in early 2017 to adapt to the growth that the community and the department has seen since it was built. This firehouse is built on land donated to Greenfield by Keihin IPT, the large automotive parts manufacturer located just west of the station. Station 422 not only provides quicker response times to the north side, but also houses a modern training facility along with a training tower on the property.
A two-bay garage on the front left houses two antique apparatus original to the department. A three-bay garage in the rear of the building is home to their reserve apparatus. The right side of the building is home to the Trustee's Office and also serves as a GPD Police substation.Antique Engine - 1926 Gramm Boyer Special Ser No. 510351 Hale pump No 1349. The Boyer was Greenfield's second fire engine. The first was a South Bend chemical engine. This apparatus is currently on loan from Dave, Ann, Billy & Danny Babcock who privately own this classic rig. The lettering on the hood was added recently.
