The Towns of McCordsville and Fortville are located 16 miles northeast of Indianapolis along US-36 in the northwest corner of Hancock County. These two former volunteer departments merged in 2020 to form the Vernon Township FD and the Vernon Township Fire Territory. As one of the fastest growing suburbs of Indianapolis, this combination department now includes career, paid-on-call and paid-per-run volunteer members. VTFD provides Fire, Rescue and ALS transport protection to the Towns of McCordsville and Fortville and all of unincorporated Vernon Township.
