Richland Township is located 45 miles Northeast of Indianapolis along IN-9 just north of Anderson in Madison County. Established in 1970, RTVFD includes 1 full-time,. 6 part-time and 36 volunteer members that respond to600  runs each year. RTVFD provides Fire, Rescue and ALS protection to nearly 5,100 residents and 27.7 square miles in their rural and suburban district. On July 1, 2021 Richland and Union Townships were approved to merge together as the East Madison Fire Territory. The EMFT will officially begin on January 1, 2022 with operations (including full-time crews at each station) becoming fully merged by July 1, 2022. Together the two departments will protect 50 square miles and respond to 2,000+ runs each year.
