Rush County is located east-southeast of Indianapolis in East Central Indiana. The county seat  and largest town  is Rushville.  Founded in 1822, this rural county covers 408 mi² with a population of 16,663 (2018). A total of 8 fire departments currently protect the county. Rushville is a combination department while the rest are all volunteer.
