The Indianapolis Fire Department has been protecting the citizens of Indianapolis and portions of Marion County since 1859. The department currently includes 44 Fire Stations serving 278 Square Miles. Their frontline apparatus fleet includes 42 Engines, 22 Ladders, 5 Squads, 12 Tactical Units (Dive Rescue, Heavy Rescue, Hazmat, Decon, Foam Support), 4 Tankers, 7 Battalion Chief Vehicles, 4 Air Supply Tactical Support Units (TSU), 3 Safety Officers, 2 EMS Duty Officers (EDO), 1 Shift Commander and 4 Rehab Support Units (RSU).
