Located just west of downtown and the White River, this firehouse opened on January 5, 1982. Station 1 (along with 5's) is part of the Confined Space/Collapse Rescue Team. On July 9, 2016 this firehouse was named in honor of Chief Joseph Kimbrew, the first African American Chief at IFD. Station 1 was historically the only station in which African-American firefighters were assigned during the time when segregation was still prevalent.
