Station 19

This firehouse was completed in 1992 and is located just southwest of downtown (you can see Lucas Oil Stadium in the left background). With its proximity to Downtown, I-65, Eli Lilly Lab buildings and other heavy industry, it was the perfect location for the Hazmat Task Force and Foam Truck. Station 19 is also located within the triangle of Kentucky Avenue and White River Parkway which allowed for a unique feature: 19's was designed with one drive-through bay (far right) accessible from Kentucky Avenue for their ladder truck. Unfortunately, for every aerial device since their original, the back driveway entrance proved too tight of a turn. Therefore, their drive through bay hasn't been able to be used since shortly after the station was built!
Engine 19 - 2011 Ferrara Igniter Pumper (H-4856) - 2000gpm/500gal
This apparatus was dedicated in January 2012 to the memory of Captain Gary Henry who was killed in action while serving the 38th Military Police Unit in Iraq in 2008. At the time of his deployment he was serving as the Special Operations Captain. However, he had previously spent part of his career at the 19's.
Ladder 19 - 2018 Pierce Arrow XT 100ft Aerial Tower (#31403)
Ladder 19 entered service in early June 2018. In addition to its tower, this rig carries a 10kw generator, extrication tools and 115ft of ground ladders. The unique paint scheme is actually based in history. Prior to the arrival of Ladder 13's 1991 Grumman Tower, all aerial apparatus at IFD were natural steel, aluminum or gray in color. This apparatus was designed with that history in mind, but added the gunmetal gray cab and gray stripes bordering the yellow reflective stripe down the body. Is this the future at IFD? That's hasn't yet been decided, but we vote an enthusiastic YES (although we might change the stripe to white)!
Tactical 19 - 1993 Ford L-8000/SwapLoader/2006 Hazmat Decontamination Pod
In April 2006, IFD put into service a new pod with separated compartments and roll-up doors along the side. This allows the crews to more easily extract only the equipment needed for a particular response. It also protects the equipment from sliding around when the pod is tilted back off the truck before removal. The cab will eventually be repainted red to match the Pod and the rest of the rigs at Station 19.
Tactical 19 - 1993 Ford L-8000/SwapLoader/2006 Hazmat Decontamination Pod
Tactical 19 is shown dropping it's pod as it does on scene during Hazmat incidents. Moving the pod to ground level allows for easier and more appropriate decontamination access and keeps any potential contaminants away from the truck portion. The pod remains tethered to the truck via electrical cables so that it can provide power for showers and other equipment while detached.
