The City of Peru is located 67 miles north of Indianapolis in Miami County near the junction of US-31 and US-24. Peru was originally founded as a volunteer department with a rolling hand pump back in 1843. Peru currently includes 31 full-time firefighters that work from two stations. Their six apparatus provide Fire, Rescue and BLS protection to 13,000+ residents and nearly 15 square miles. Peru is known as the "Circus Capital of the World" as it served as the winter home of some of the most famous circuses in the US in the late 19th and early 20th century.
