Located east of I-69 along US-120 in Steuben county, the Town of Fremont is the furthest northeast town in Indiana. Incorporated in 1947, Fremont Fire/Rescue is a combination department with 29 career and volunteer members. Fremont provides Fire, Rescue, Hazmat and Medical First Responder protection to 85 square miles and 6,800 permanent residents. However, due to the lakes in their district, the population increases dramatically in the summer months. Their protection area includes the Towns of Fremont and Clear Lake, Fremont Township, Clear Lake Township, portions of York, Jamestown and Scott Townships as well as California Township in southeast Michigan. Fremont Fire Department is the second busiest fire department in Steuben County with 650 calls each year.
