The City of Bluffton is located 24 miles south of Fort Wayne in central Wells County. First organized in 1879 as the Vigilant Hook & Ladder Company, this combination department now includes 7 full-time FF and 35 volunteers. BFD provides Fire, Rescue and First Responder medical protection to 25,000 residents and 95 square miles. Their area includes most of Harrison and Lancaster Townships along with the City of Bluffton. In addition, they respond to approximately 1/3 of the County for Rescue calls.
