Knox County is located in southwestern Indiana along the Wabash River and the Illinois border. Knox was one of two original counties created in the Northwest Territory in 1790, and was gradually reduced in size as subsequent counties were established. The county seat and largest city is Vincennes. 13 fire departments protect the county's 36,895 residents (2018) and 524 square miles.
