The Town of Mitchell is located 84 miles SSW of Indianapolis at along IN-37 in southern Lawrence County. Formed in 1853, this department included paid members from 1912-1944. Now an all-volunteer department, MVFD includes 14 members who respond to 300 runs each year. MVFD provides Fire and Medical First Responder protection to 3.5 square miles and 4800 residents within the town limits of Mitchell.
