The Town of Farmersburg is located along IN-41 along the Indiana/Illinois border in in northern Sullivan County. The Thunderbird Fire Protection Territory was formed in 2000 combining the Farmersburg VFD and Curry Township VFD. Named for a former mine in the area, the all-volunteer department includes 27 members who respond from two stations. Thunderbird provides Fire Rescue and BLS protection to 2,800 residents and 36 square miles.
