Vanderburgh County is located in far southwestern Indiana along I-69 and the Ohio River. The largest city and county seat is Evansville.  While Vanderburgh County is the seventh-largest Indiana county with 181,451  people (2019), it is also the eighth-smallest county in area in Indiana and the smallest in southwestern Indiana, covering only 236 square miles. Six fire departments protect the county.
