Vermillion County lies in the far western part of Indiana between the Illinois border and the Wabash River. The county seat is Newport while the largest town is Clinton. The county is 37 miles long north to south, but less than 10 miles from east to west at its widest point. This makes Vermillion County both the longest and most narrow in the state!. Eight fire departments and a County-wide EMS service protect the county's 15,479 residents (2018) and 259 square miles.
