The small town of Dana is located along US-36 and the B&O railroad near the Indiana/Illinois border in northern Vermillion County. Dana is best known for being the home of famed WWII journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Ernie Pyle. While a department in the area dates back 100 years, DCVFD was re-organized in 1952. 30 all-volunteer members now respond to 150 runs each year. Their primary fire/rescue district includes the town of Dana and the northwest portion of Helt Township. However, DCVFD is automatically dispatched on all St. Bernice and Hillsboro runs and also provide primary medical and extrication for those departments.
